Anxiety Poem

Robert's prompt for today at was to write a monster poem. My monster of the moment is definitely anxiety. Feels vulnerable to name that monster and post about it in a kind of public forum, but vulnerability is part of the creative process and part of being open to growth, I believe,

anxiety rises
heart races
hands shake
no monster threatens
no deadline looms
no illness dooms
nothing external
justifies fear
anxiety rises
on her own terms
monster enough

  1. I really like this piece. Yes, anxiety is one of those "big" monsters that is very real. The ending was perfect.

  2. You've captured anxiety well. It definitely does rise on its own terms, cannot be deterred sometimes. It just IS.

  3. Thanks for the comments on this poem, one that feels especially personal and vulnerable to post.

  4. Victoria, sometimes the most personal poems have the most impact on readers. This poem is one of of those for me. Well done.
