Gotta Use it All

based on "fabric of life" prompt

Can't pick and choose,
hate stitching dead babies,
cancer, family fights,
into my life quilt.
Wish I could cull out
the jagged jarring pieces,
hog the pretty symetrical
bits, perfect moments,
smiling children, straight A's.
Doesn't work like that,
Gotta ust it all.

  1. You definitely have that right, Victoria! You have to use the pieces you get...like it or not.

  5. This is so good. I gotta confess I was confused when I saw your name because I haven't even written mine yet. :0) The voice you created in this one, matter of fact, listing all the tragedies of life as if they were just so many pieces and colors of fabric, really adds to the impact of the whole piece.

  6. Whew, takes my breath away. I do know that it is though pieces that make the quilt stronger.

  7. That's where the art comes in. I like the direct style in this one very much.

  9. I guess it all depends on what kind of design we make with all the pieces. I hope to make mine emphasize those happy pieces, but the others can be woven into something with a different kind of beauty I think. Nice writing!

  10. Quite right, hate to say it. I guess one has to change one's perspective about bad and good. Not so easy. K.

  11. So many ideas in such few words. Love the tone it gives off. The frustrations of life itself woven into the quilts. Thanks for the read!

  12. No, we can't pick and chose and if we didn't have the bad in life how would we know the good when it came to us?
    Lovely, raw, honest.

  14. How very true. We must strive to accept the "good" with the "bad"...not always black and white though, is it.

  16. If every piece was the same, what a boring quilt this would be. Victoria. Altogether yours weaves a beautiful life-affirming pattern.

  17. The purpose of the quilt is to give all of a life a meant, unified shape, which, I think, the heart is, for better and worse. All of it the honest image of a self, perhaps a soul ... You're exactly right. - Brendan

  18. creativity shown individually when each one is done. just like poetry, we each have a style, under the same category.

    Cheers.

  19. Without the jagged jarring pieces, we would have no poetry to share, for we would soon tire of just rainbows and children laughing. We need the thorns to toughen our skin and our resolve.
