You stretch a long leg
effortlessly above your head
and your flame hair shimmers.
Rhinestone Tinkerbell
necklace glitters
at your pale throat.
Shyness and determination
vie for control of your eyes.
You could be your mother.
You could be my ghost.
You are however
marvelously
yourself.
This one, I must say, one of your best. So beautiful underlying concept of being ourselves.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
This is a beautiful portrait, Victoria. A 'keeper' of a poem!
ReplyDeleteMarvelously herself. I love this, Victoria. Such a special portrait of this beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking how marvelous it must be to see a part of yourself in your grandchild. This gives me something more to think about and also the realization that I have not seen that yet. It's early yet. :)I love this poem.
ReplyDeleteAfter being stuck on writing poems for a few days it was great to come back on this morning and find this one so well received. I hope I'm back on track. It feels good to be part of a community of people who thrive on having poetry part of our lives and are willing to use the discipline to make it so.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful, wonderful portrait that not only describes KK, but tells us about your daughter and about you as well. What a joy it must be to see your own reflection like this. You seem back on track to me!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully worded, descriptive poem about a beautiful granddaughter descended from a long line of beauty.
